We believe energy should work for people and not for profit. As a community-owned organisation, we’re creating renewable energy projects that keep the benefits local - lowering costs, reducing emissions, and helping Crowle lead the way toward a sustainable, self-reliant future.
About Us
Crowle Community Energy was founded by a small group of local residents inspired by what’s possible when we take control of our own energy future. It all began with a simple belief - that clean energy should be something everyone can benefit from.
One of our founding members proved that their own home can be self-sufficient through solar panels, battery storage, a heat pump and electric cars. Seeing first-hand how clean energy reduces costs, carbon emissions and dependency on the grid sparked a bigger question: if one home can be self-sufficient, why not a whole village?

The founding members - Ian Boden, Steve Bott and Richard Temple Cox CBE
Today, that idea has grown into a community-led movement. As a registered Community Benefit Society, we’re bringing local people together to develop projects that keeps energy and its related benefits within and around the community of Crowle.
Our journey so far has been made possible through grant funding from the UK Government and in partnership with the Midlands Net Zero Hub (MNZH).
This has enabled us to carry out feasibility studies, assess local opportunities and the development of our first project - a potential 249 kWp, one-acre solar farm within the village. This project was featured in the local BBC News in April - click here to read the article.
We have also been awarded further funding from MNZH to assess the feasibility of rooftop solar PV projects in partnership with Wychavon District Council.
All of our work to date is a vital stepping stone toward our long-term vision of a net-zero future for Crowle and the community we serve.

Our Purpose
We believe the transition to a low-carbon future should be led by people, for the people. By generating and owning our energy locally, we keep the social, environmental and financial benefits where they belong - in our community.
Our Vision
To make Crowle a pioneer — one of the first villages in the UK to achieve a truly community-owned, net-zero energy system, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
Our Mission
To create locally owned energy projects that deliver lasting benefit for the people of Crowle, inspiring other communities across the UK to take control of their energy future.
Our Values
- Collaboration – We achieve more when we work together.
- Integrity – We’re open, transparent and accountable.
- Sustainability – We protect our environment for future generations.
- Community – We reinvest locally so everyone shares the benefit.
